I just bought a 2014 regal with a 350mag bravo 3, on test drive the outer prop and spline came of and the bottom of lower unit was cracked our guess is from freezing. My question is if I drop the lower section Is there any way to tell if the upper section of outdrive is damaged?
 
Sorry, sounds like a failure not frozen. The lower carrier comes loose on the bravo3 and spits out pieces.

You are going to be pulling the whole drive down for inspection and cleaning anyway... The parts for repair will be more than the cost of the unit new.

Get your gear ratio and find a good used drive.
