1973 888 mercruiser water seperator fuel filter vent hose routing?

The water seperator fuel filter housing has a rigid male pipe at the top that appears to be for connecting a vent hose. Is that what it is for? If so how should the vent hose be routed to direct fumes from the bilge area?

Thanks

Typically Gas in from tank, gas out to fuel pump... Often filter housing have multiple in and out fitting locations to allow for options in how to connect.

if this is a Ford motor and uses the glass bowl attached to the fuel pump then that is a hose to tell you if the diaphram has ruptured and needs to go to the carb

Read post #3 again.
There should be NO vent fitting or hose leading from the water separating fuel filter. You should see only inlet and outlet ports/fittings.

A few pictures would be very helpful.
