90 hp not accelerating

Last week the anchor rope got wrapped around propeller and once removed the motor would not increase pass 8 mph but rpms would go past 5000. We removed prop thinking rope could be inside prop but found none. We took boat back out and now.it.will.not go pass 8 mph but the rpms will not exceed 2000. We did not immediately acknowledge the rope around the prop and tried to accelerate for a few seconds. Is spun prop a possibly regardless of rpms not increasing?

Thank you

Yes. You will need to rehub or replace prop. Dah! It happens to all of us. One time my younger brother Steve caught a dangling rope in the prop of a 15 horsepower and it just about pulled the motor right off the boat and into his lap.

It's puzzling that the rpm's stay low now. There should be nothing allowing that to happen, especially since you only ran with the rope for a few moments as the hub was slipping. I have never heard of this causing a damage to the lower unit resulting in "binding". Hubs are engineered to avoid damaging the motor from overloading.
