Piston removal

Can port top piston be removed by removing the intake and the head on 83 Johnson 140 hp J140tlcte a friend told me yes I didn’t think so I have never taken a motor apart thank you for any comments :eek:
 
Well----You might be able to remove the rod and piston.-------But then how would you put it back together.------Perhaps your friend is not aware of lining up a connecting rod cap on one of these engines.
 
Thanks racerone there wouldn’t be any reason to take it out if you couldn’t get it back in he was saying that I could put new piston and ring in it without talking it apart I didn’t think so thanks for your reply
 
You need to accept the facts.-----To do a proper inspection / repair of this motor the powerhead must come off.----The block must be split.
