When taking the lower unit off my 1987 25 hp outboard, I discovered the upper shift shaft was not connected at the upper end.
It has an eye at the upper end, with a short 1/2" or so pin in it, with a clip holding it. The other end of the short pin, looks like it pulled out of a lever it was pressed into, and maybe brazed or silver soldered.
Being as I can't see the lever, I assume the power head needs to be removed.
Yes? Difficulty?
Also the lower unit has an oil leak and doesn't hold pressure.
Does replacing the prop seals require special tools? Not sure I would want to just replace the upper case seal, and not prop shaft seal, not knowing which was leaking.
Might be time to find another motor. Maybe a 35 hp! It's on a 1959 14' runabout.
Thanks for any info and advice.
