Hi. This thread is a continuation from my originally posted thread '1973 Johnson 135hp Ignition / Tachometer Issues'. Basically, an issue I had with my tachometer evolved into an engine rebuild - rings, and 1 piston.
Attached are pictures of the upper crankcase. I mistook the 'oil plug' (whose brass remnants can be seen on the side of the bearing saddle) for shrapnel and went to town removing it. Whoops. Big mistake.
My question: what is the purpose of the hole beside the bearing dowel? It has what appears to be a brass orifice within it. Is that a bearing oiler of some kind?I don't understand how it works.
The reason I ask this is that I'm not sure what to do next. Do I need to 'finish the job' with this 'oil plug' and drill it right out, I'm wondering if there was a passage there that connected to the 'oiler port' and I need to repair it to open it back up. Or, do nothing: the brass piece is called an 'oil plug'. This would suggest that the hole in which it was inserted was 'plugged'. I've never seen a setup like this before.
Edit: You might wonder why part 310507 is called a 'oil hose plug'. It appears to be a mistake on the item detail page. The parts diagram does call it an Oil Hole Plug.
