Bolts came out easily, ( should have been suspicious !) starter itself stuck in bell housing. Won't come out, won't twist. Tried to jack it out by placing a spacer ( box end of a wrench) on top of outboard mounting bolt head against starter body and unscrewing bolt... only succeeded in distorting bolt and indenting box head of wrench into starter housing . FWC inboard engine.

guessing its a rear entry type inboard V drive.
penetrating oil and a deadblow hammer. when installing a new use use grease on the nosecone

sorry... you were close, a rear entry w/Hurth tranny. Did try a hammer, but not a dead blow and not all that big a one. OK... back into the bilge (later this week).

Thanks BT Doctur.

A heat gun on the flywheel cover can also help...depending on the installation, sometimes you can get a lever between the starter housing and the gear and make is work with a tailored work block....the interface doesn't have much clearance so be gentle to minimize disturbing it....

And its not a bad idea to re-insert a longer bolt thru one of the ears a few threads to 'catch' the old motor....they have been known to 'drop' without warning when they 'free up'...
