Knocking sound 302 ford

Need help , has a knocking sound behind the 888 302 ford mercruiser. Gimble bearing has been change and u joints,didnt change a thing.I will try to pot videohttps://photos.app.goo.gl/E7tBdqBuCg7RcUGU6..

Doesn't load the video.

Maybe loose flywheel fasteners or the flywheel cover dust shield that is on the bottom can rattle if loose .
 
Use a piece of 3 to 4 foot 1 1/2 PVC pipe....while holding it up to your ear move it around the area to see if you can pinpoint where the noise is coming from.
 
I too would eliminate the stern drive (as the source) by removing it.

If you fire the engine up for any duration, you will want to supply cooling water.
Since the
888 lower unit seawater pump is RPM driven, and will be OUT of the LOOP during this, you'll want to start the water supply after the fire-up, and shut if off just prior to shut down.

If you fire it up for 15/20 seconds only, you'd be OK without.


Also, for a few bucks you can pick up a mechanic's stethoscope that will work much better than a pipe or hose held up to the ear.
