1999 Yamaha F50 tilt pin question

Hey all,

Web searched and couldn't find an answer to this anywhere. I recently purchased a new to me 1999 Yamaha f50 tlrx outboard. It has power tilt/trim but the tilt limit pin is missing. Is this needed. Can I damage anything by trimming to far in without it?

Thanks

If your talking about the tilt rod??
Yes you can damage the motor.
The aluminum is pretty durable but on the other hand it's soft and
will wear and possibly break if the pin's not there.
You can draw the motor in too far too.
Ebay maybe even this site sells?

Thanks, yes that is the rod. I am currently using the rod from another motor (evinrude). I'll order the proper one.
It does seem like I should be able to trim it lower (remember this is a power trim model). I'm still getting a little porpoise that im Sure I could dial out with it a little further down.

Thanks

Because with it (in the closest hole), it seems to keep the motor from being able to trim in enough. The motor is a 1999, and by the looks of the holes, one was never used. That doesn't mean it was right, even though the boat will prob most likey ride better without. When I got it it was missing, but I have only used it with one in place.
