Yamaha 25hp 4stroke spark issues

I have a 2004 Yamaha 25 4 stroke sometimes it gets spark and other times I get nothing I’m thinking it might be the coil. Does anyone have other ideas?

Could be lots of things. Faulty spark plug, HT lead, ignition coil, CDI, pulser coil, or stator. How are you confirming the inconsistent spark?

If you haven't replaced the plugs yet, I would do that. Also note what the tips of the old ones look like when you take them out. If one looks much different than the other, then maybe one cylinder is just running extremely rich and not firing consistently.

You can test the ignition coil, but you need the specs from the service manual (which I would strongly recommend buying.. well worth it).

I’ve checked both plugs and changed both. I hold them on the motor and start it to test for spark and I’m only getting it sometimes thanks for the info

Spark can be difficult to see on plugs in broad daylight.-----Test with a proper spark testing device and perhaps test at night in the dark.
