Think I may have a problem....

When in neutral the prop shaft spins freely in either direction,
when in gear (fwd or rev) the prop shaft seems "locked" in either direction.
I believe it should click/ratchet in one direction and lock in the other when in fwd and the opposite in rev.
Seems to shift ok but I'm concerned........

Any thoughts?

I don't believe those gears are designed to be able to spin freely in the opposite direction, but I would wait for someone with more experience.

That is the way an OMC lower unit works yours is normal. Mercury and I believe Yamaha have lowers that ratchet in forward.
