Question on 2001 Baja 502ci to 454ci swap

Just acquired a 2001 Baja Outlaw with a 502ci engine,, I’m looking at the worst of the worst situation. Engine replacement. The 502 is having major engine issues, What engines would be a “cheaper” alternative to replace the 502?? Any big block like a 454 or 496? Can I get a shortblock 454 and swap entire top end heads, cam, intake from the 502 and put on the 454?? Just weighing my options. Thanks.
 
Best way out is to buy the long block from a remanufacturer so that you get a warranty. Then, gaskets in hand, swap everything over. It's gonna $5K hurt.
 
Better option than the crappy 7.4 or 502 is a used complete 496 mag HO. I have been shopping them for a Formula 330ss to replace the L29 slugs.

I have looked at a few pairs all in great shape. You can pick one up for $6-$8K. You wont be sorry. I will take a used 496 over a new 7.4 any day.
 
so would the mpi fuel injection, intake swap directly to to 496??
