2004 Yamaha F75 charging issue, maybe

We have a low hours F75 on our pontoon and noticed that this week it seemed to only be showing about 13V on the dash gauge, no matter the RPM. Seems a bit low. Got the boat home today and put the brand new 1000CCA marine battery on a charger and it was not full. The charger had to top it up. Will have the battery tested to make sure its not a lemon but How can we test the outboard? What kind of charging system do they have? Can we repair most of it ourselves or do we have to go to a stealership to get it done?

Your gauge just might be off. I would just check the battery directly with a multimeter while the engine is running and see what you get.
 
Do not unhook battery while motor is running it will damage the charging system myersj2 use a multi meter to check dc voltage at battery while motor is running should have above 12 .7 hope this helps
