Trim issues.

I have what I am told is a mercruiser trim pump used to trim a Volvo penta 290 outdrive. The outdrive won’t stay trimmed. It will slowly go to full down while underway. There doesn’t seem to be any leak anywhere as I don’t need to refill the reservoir. Could the trim pump be an issue? Any hints at troubleshooting?

its the valve body, between motor and resevior.
Had same issue with a few trim pumps. Got used valve bodies and problems solved...

Most likely a bad check ball no longer seating in one of the valves in the valve body
 
Craigslist boat parts, found used pumps cheap.

You cant buy just the valve body.
Its the motor and valve body ~$150.00 new
