EGR valve EGR 2005 200hp hpdi

Was cleaning the carbon from the EGR valves on the twin motors.
Both joints or plungers were solid and closed off.

The question is the stbd. motor when the key was off the EGR had power(12v) to the unit.
And it was HOT!!!!
The port EGR with the key off had no power to it???

Why would one have juice(12v) when the other doesn't?
Have other posts with a few problems.
Was wondering if this can contribute to the poor idle on this motor?
THANKS!!

What you are working on is the O2 draw tube. Clean it up and put it back.

How old are the spark plugs?

Called a sensor, basically an EGR valve.
Stbd. side top of the bank of cyl.
An EGR valve recirculates a bit of exhaust gas back into the intake air system. Not used on any Yam.

As noted, it seems you are referring to the draw tube for the Oxygen density sensor. It is only sampling a portion of the exhaust gas so as to determine to what extent fuel delivery should be trimmed.

Is Yamalube being used? It is known to foul plugs and draw tubes in some Yams. A shift to Pennzoil semi or full synthetic oil may cure that problem.

The O2 sensor is heated. Power is applied to it when the key is on via a relay. If it is being heated when the key is off then it would appear that the relay providing power to it has failed closed.

Thanks for the answers.

Talked to the owner, he said that when it rains, and he touches some metal
in certain spots, he gets shocked.
So I'm guessing there's a short somewhere?
