06 mercury 25hp 4 stroke not getting full power

I have a 2006 mercury 4 stroke 25hp (sn:0r165904) that is not getting full power. It starts and idles fine and has never died but when I apply the throttle and it starts to come up on plane it drops back down to idle speed. No lights or beeps from the motor except the initial single beep when the key is turned.

I think carb's and fuel pumps should be rebuilt about every 10 years or so. When was your's last worked on?

i just recently bought the boat and I’m not sure of the service history.

You can try to "clean" the carbs by running a can of Evinrude/Johnson engine tuner through the carbs, just follow the directions. This is a quick fix, but should not replace a thorough carburetor cleaning as previously mentioned. Check all fuel filters and hoses too, it sounds like a fuel problem at open throttle.
