Stiff steering

Trying to fix my steering it appears that its a combination of everything I guess I need to know how hard it is to move motor by hand with the steering bolt disconnected. When I move it it definitely needs a bit of force, it doesnt just flop to one side as I thought it should? Yamaha 70 non hydraulic.

It should move fairly easy.
There's a grease fitting on the mid section.
However the grease in there is probably turned hard.

You can try adding new grease and use a heat gun to warm up the old grease
before adding new.
That helps wake up the old grease and helps move it out.
Heat it up for 10-15 min. before adding new.

If you use a propane torch, you can melt the plastic bushings at the top and bottom.
So don't get it too hot.

Just tried doing this once i got it warm it freed it up a bit, pumped all new greese in but after it cooled down its stiff again it also was only coming out the bottom. Any ideas to get it out the top? The grease that came out the bottom seemed all good.

Then heat only the top.
As you work it, hit the bottom with ice to keep the grease hard
and try to make the grease flow up.

In severe cases you might have to add more zerks.
One at the top and one at the bottom, before they get the zerks installed, you can heat
and then blow out the grease with compressed air.
Be real careful as the grease if hot can really shoot a LONG way.
It took a friend a week of washing his hair to finally get the grease out.
