Turning motor backwards

I accidentally turned my 3.0 backwards a few rotations. Does that hurt anything?

If you turned it in the reverse direction by hand, you have not caused any damage.

If it underwent "dieseling" or "run-on" and turned in the reverse direction, it may have caused reversion, pulling water into the cylinders!
If so, pull the spark plugs, turn it over, put the plugs back in and fire it up ASAP.

Thanks! Yeah it was by hand. I was replacing the dist and had a brain fart turning it counter clockwise one rev.

No prob except to say that you wanna be sure that you set the timing having turned the engine in the correct direction.

In relationship to the distributor, you would have been placing the timing chain "slack" on the opposite side of the thrust direction.
Don't be concerned.

In order to fire this engine up, bring the crankshaft around (in the correct rotation/direction) to #1 cylinder at approx 6* BTDC on the compression stroke.
Install the distributor with the rotor indexed correctly for the #1 spark plug cable tower.
Gently lock down the housing clamp.
Connect the distributor wiring up.

Place a spark plug cable directly into the coil.
Place a good spark plug into the boot of that same cable.
Give the spark plug body good contact with the engine.
Make sure that no gasoline vapors are present!
Turn key switch on.
Quickly rotate the distributor housing against it's normal rotation.
Look for one spark event as the housing is being rotated.
Repeat this until you can stop right when the spark event occurs.
Now further tighten the housing clamp.
Turn key switch OFF.

Put the cable and spark plug back as they should be.

You are now ready to fire up, and immediately adjust the BASE advance.

Thanks for the info!
