OceanPro 150 Hard start and "sputters" intermittently

3 Questions:

1. I am having a hard time starting my boat at times. It seems that the choke is not engaging with the ingnition. I have manually turn the choke while someone turns the key. I dont know the mechanics behind this. I feel that when I press the key down to choke it doesnt do anything.

2. When I am cruising along the engine will start to stall or sputter, then it stops sputtering and runs fine.

3. My idle seems a little low, is there an easy way to set the idle higher?

Any advice and guidance is always appreciated. Thank you.

1. A primer solenoid is part #0437232

Without trying to start, stand at the engine with the cover off and have someone turn the key to the on position and press in while you listen. Do you hear a click? If you hear a click then it means you're getting power to the solenoid but there is an issue with the valve. If that's the case, you might just need to rebuild the valve portion using this kit: http://www.marineengine.com/newparts/part_details.php?pnum=SIE18-7044

If you do not hear a click remove the wires from the primer solenoid assembly and check for 12 volts when the key is pressed in. Do you have 12 V? If you have 12V but no click then you may have a bad solenoid and need to replace it. If you DO NOT have 12V then the issue is somewhere in your wiring or ignition switch.

2. Your stall and or sputter is either a fuel delivery issue or ignition. The first easy thing is to check all fuel lines for restrictions or leaks. If that's all fine then it's possibly an ignition issue that you'll have to catch when it happens to test.

3. We'll need to model # to give proper advice for setting the idle.

Thank you so much Kevinj. I will definitely do those test in the next week or so. I leave for a trip tomorrow. My model number is E150EXEOM.
