is there an easy way to add an alternator/generator to my 1956 Johnson 30 hp??? I use the trolling motor a lot and would be nice to replentish on the run.

No... but even if it was possible, it would be so cost preventative that it would be cheaper to buy a later model engine that incorporates as alternator.

The juice created by an outboard alternator isn't going to be enough to have much effect on a trolling motor battery. Your best bet is to get a Group 31 deep cycle battery and connect it to an onboard automatic charger. When you're done on the water plug in the charger, get the battery juiced up, then unplug it.

Agreed, virtually no outboard alternator is going to replenish the juice used by a trolling motor unless the troll was for a short time or you run the big motor all day. (Roughly speaking, of course)
