Default 2006 90 hp DFI Mercury Optimax idle problem

Runs great but when put in neutral wants to die any way to adjust idle on this motor? It will idle along in gear at a very low speed but the instant you put it in neutral it dies. It will crank right back up and will go in gear and run with no problem.

    None adjustable Idle.

Check the belt and tensioner, check the reeds.

I can check the belt and tensioner. Checking the reeds will take me reading up on that.

    Thanks for the reply.

Belt and tensioner seems to be okay motors on a pontoon so I’ll get it pulled out and checked.

Checking reeds can be done with a scan tool by checking intake air temp..... You can also check reeds with your ears if you know what to listen for, the best way if you don't have a scan tool or know what you are listening for, is to use your eyes. Pull the intake apart and look at them. You will see the damage if there is any.
