sluggish start Yamaha VMax 200

I have a 2001 Vmax 200 on my ranger fis and si. Starts fine runs fine -- except-- when click in gear, everything normal, when I punch it, it is sluggish for 1 or 2 seconds- sometime 3 or 4 before it spools up and takes off-- as soon as it takes off, no problems at all. This is only a issue if I am pulling a skier-- that delay is not good.
any suggestions?

If it's sluggish when you quickly open the throttle, that means not enough fuel is getting to the cylinders (to match the increased air intake that comes when opening the throttle quickly). So the usual suspect is the carburetors and/or linkage. Get the service manual for your engine from yamahapubs.com, and it will tell you how to clean/rebuild the carburetors and perform a link/sync.

I will add that to my fall service ( all filters including mystery-water pump, lower unit service, lift pump...) Any other suggestions ?
