1980 50HP Mercury 4cyl 2 stroke. Rebuilt carbs, replaced stator because wiring was broken and missing insulation. Replaced ignition trigger, stator had melted potting compound on to trigger assembly, glued it in place and the triggers timing linkage arm broke off. New spark plugs.
Out on the lake Saturday, it runs like it is at 3/4 throttle, with throttle set to full doing about 22mph on a 14' basstracker. Linkage is working correctly, pulling throttles wide open, trigger advance operates.
All of the sudden, it came up to full rpm for only about half a second, and ran like it is supposed to run, but only did this once.
Any suggestions????
