just picked up and old boat with the bf15 engine, after running for a few hours the boat cut out and wouldnt start , we tool off the carb which seemed flooded and cleaned and she started as soon as we put her back on, happened again a couple of hours later, any ideas? ive tried with higher octane fuel and still no joy

When you buy a used motor, I instantly will perform all the following REGARDLESS of what the previous owner says.

- Inspect and replace spark plugs
- Replace all engine oil
- Replace all Filter (yours doesn't have one)
- Replace the lower unit oil
- Check and clean all electrical connections
- Check, clean and tighten all fuel connections
- Replace any fuel filter
- Check Compression (get a free loaner tool from any auto parts store)
- Check Spark
- Replace fuel lines and primer bulb
- Inspect and Adjust Valves (need some mechanic ability)
- Inspect and replace thermostat

Doing those things are not challenging and a million YouTube videos that will help you through it. Then you will have the peace of mind that everything is right and boat in confidence.

In your case, it could be a few things:

- Sucking air some place between the tank to the carbs.
- Overheating due to lack of water flow through the cooling sysem
- Poor compression in one or more cylinders
- Crappy gummy carb
