Lost power

I have a 2005 Honda 225. Started fine this morning . Idled out of the harbor. when I went to speed up the engine died and now I have no power when I turn on the key to start. I still have power to my trim tabs when I turn on the key but not showing any voltage on my dash amp meter. Checked all the breakers and have not found any that have tripped. When I try to raise the 225 it does nothing and the dash gas gauge starts to jump around until I release the button. Any help would be appreciated!
 
Might be a loose power connection, not enough load when running the trim tabs to trigger the loss of power? Have someone hold down the tilt trim button while you jiggle the power connections on the battery etc.
 
Thanks. NSDON, that was exactly what it was. The negative main cable had lost connectivity on the battery. Removed cable,cleaned it and battery post, reconnected and problem solved! Many thanks. Saved our Labor day weekend!!
