Crusader 8.1 plug removal

Related to my thread below, I'm going to take a look at a pair of 8.1's (vintage 2002) tomorrow and do a compression test. It's hard to believe but I cannot find a single video or pic so I know what tools to bring. Are these coil on plug or are the plugs underneath the exh manifold like my 454's? If no, do I need any tools to remove the coil(s) in order to remove the plugs? On the plugs I'm assuming a standard 5/8" plug socket will work.

And, do the 8.1's have a slave soleniod on top of the engine for a remote starter connection?

thanks
Bob

The few I've touched are COP and require the 5/8" socket....and bring the socket sets for the retaining bolts....I think they are metric but honestly cant remember...better to bring the SAE set, too and the short extensions...

You will need to be careful with the adapter as the threaded hole is recessed a bit.

If you've got a portable compressor and the tester, a leakdown test will give you a more comprehensive assessment....

I'm pretty certain you can find you-tube videos - just search GM 8.1L
