BF 25 shift rod barrel nut installation

The shift rod connector on by 2006 BF 25 vibrated off on the highway. I've ordered a new one from Honda but need instructions on how to install it. The threaded ends of both rods are visible but The accessible space seems very tight. Must I drop the LU or can the new connector barrel net be inserted and tightened in place?

Put the engine in forward gear I beleive and it will move the upper rod, up allowing space to put on the longer nut. Then shift back into neutral and into reverse to set it.

You should have a long shafted nut and a smaller nut, both 12 mm I think. Big goes on the bottom and little goes on the top. Once you have connected the big on to the bottom and top shaft and have found proper shift alignment, tighten the smaller nut down on top of the big nut to lock it in place.
