1956 30 hp johnson...Gapping coils??

I bought a new set of coils for my 1956 johnson 30 hp, I'm wondering how to set the spacing between the flywheel magnet and coil. When you drop the flywheel on, it forms a close fit with the ignition base plate, and there is no way to stick a feeler gauge in there. Or are the three bolts designed to automatically position the coils??….Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You need a spacing ring to set the coils. On the new coils there isn't much of a oblong hole to set the coils. Use the flywheel as your spacer. Set the coils as far back as possible . Tighten them up. Put the flywheel on and rotate by hand and listen to make sure the coils don't rub on the flywheel
