Disassemble and cleaning under flywheel 72 Johnson 100 HP

Not my primary outboard anymore, but looking to clean this guy up and potentially sell it off if it runs after I put it back together... I'm down to the timer base after taking off the flywheel and distributor. The OMC manual doesn't really explain how to remove the timer base to get to the anti reverse spring. Does this guy in the video have a legit way (about minute 14 to 15).

Mine is in considerably better shape than his though, lol. Anyway, should I dismantle all the pieces off the timer base and will that get me to the anti reverse spring or do you take the whole base off? I do have some corrosion on the crankshaft and rotor (distributor looks clean) if that makes a difference how I approach this... Thanks in advance for any help..
