2001 5.7 GXI-A is not shutting off with the key. Disconnected all wires at the switch, still runs. Pull the emergency lanyard, still runs.
Some models show diodes to prevent back charging the circuit from the alternator on wiring diagrams. My model does not show any in-line diodes.
My alternator is a three wire hook up, orange, purple and black.
The alternator is charging and I don’t want to buy a new one blindly if there’s another issue.
Any help is very much appreciated.

On some of the older models, the ignition circuit provided power to the alternator field.
When/if the alternator failed, the system could/would back-feed power to the ignition.
If so, the key switch would NOT cut off the ignition circuit.

Just a suggestion!
