1988 model 270 ignition coils

Hello,

looking to cofirm exact coil needed for 1988 5.7/model 270.

The engine has Prestolite breakerless distributor and no external ballast resistor.

If u have points the manual calls for a 1.5 ohm coil with external resistor

my engine does not have points but am lead to believe i need a 4 ohm internal reistor coil

can anyone confirm?

Hello,

i ended up using a 4 ohm coil yesterday and so far so good.I aquired a 4 ohm coil before i could get a 1.5 ohm coil

The coil that was on the engine was a 1.5 but was arching from coil tower to +\- terminals on coil. I found the Crusader manual a little unclear when looking up my engine configuration of Petronix BID ignition on coil part number.

I did discover why the coil was arching, the rotor was in 5 different pieces inside the distribtor cap. Im actually amazed the motor ran at all. Since the metal tab on end of rotor was missing and could not pass the voltage to the contacts on insde of cap easily, the electrity had no easy path to travel and found a different path

Replaced multi piece rotor ;) with a one piece rotor and presto,
no arching and no miss firing!!

The only thing left is to find the 5th piece of the rotor inside the distributor, so far i can only account for 4 pieces
