If either bellows lets go will the boat take on water and sink? A fellow boater told me a Mercruiser will and Volvo's will not. How much am I looking at to have a boat yard replace them, roughly?

Driveshaft bellows when ripped will allow water into the boat , exhaust bellows leaking will not as the xhaust is open to the water on the outlet anyways. I'd think depending on where you are, where u take it to, and other components needed like gimbal bearing or ujoints if the bellows leaked... $600-1000

A failed or failing exhaust bellows will NOT cause sinking.
A failed or failing drive shaft bellows will allow water to enter past the gimbal bearing and into the engine bay.

Stop listening to this person!

Ask for a quote, not an estimate!

Well, if you consider that the driveshaft bellows is there to prevent water from getting into this area, and that periodic maintenance is required, it’s just the name of the game!

As with any type of sterndrive that has a driveshaft bellows, store your drive in the down position and with the drive aiming straight forward, and you will extend the life of these bellows.
When trailering, raise the drive no more than need be for ground clearance.
