Corrosion on Engine Block

Hi Guys,

Considering buying a used Yamaha 90.

There is what appears to be significant corrosion on one side of the engine.
A comparison photo from the internet of the same area is also attached.

Any idea of the cause and significance of this apparent corrosion?

Its time to replace your cylinder head gasket ive seen this before on a v4 Johnson and v4 Yamaha your waterways between the cylinder sleeves is full of salt build up. When i did it i used Durbans Formula and it removed all the salt build up and replaced the gaskets.
 
Prob just saltwater corrosion build up. If it was used in saltwater and not maintained it will have alot of internal corrosion also. Does it matter, thats up to you. If its a deal and you dont mind putting in a little work go for it. If you want something reliable you dont have to touch then I wouldnt. Whats the price on it?
