Old 4-line power-trim question

Hey everyone..

I've got a 1969 (I believe) Mercury 1000 (think it's an SS but not sure) with no power trim, serial is 2685637. I've recently picked up another one the same complete, for spare parts, serial is 2575677. The parts engine has working power trim (yay!), it's the old 4 line style. I plan on swapping the trim system over to my original.

My question is.. is this system strictly for tilting the motor at the launch and for slow speeds through shallow areas? Or can I trim the motor at high speeds for better planing angle?

I wasn't sure if the old ones were made to take that kind of stress.

Btw, this particular model has only one solenoid.. normal not normal?
