picked up this motor last year for our boat. wiring was trashed for the tilt, it needs to be replaced. this unit had the box with the large solenoid inside it. any chance I could update this to a setup using two small relays instead of the bulky box? motor is a 3 wire, i'm assuming ground, up pos, down pos?

Changing over to the relay system involves the complete relay wiring system as well as the two wire electric motor. That's a lot of work and quite a bit of $$$$.... really not worth the effort.

Here's the easy to understand PTT wiring diagram for what you have.

I already have 2 relays with harnesses and fuse holders, I think i'm just going to rewire it all. I ordered a new 2 wire motor, i'll put the relays under the cowel and tap off power and ground there. I think I have a handle on this.

I just wasn't sure If the older system required a heavier feed for some reason.

what amp fuse is required on the power feed?

Normally there is no fuse as the electric motors usually contain a circuit breaker... BUT... if it were me, I think I'd put a 20 ampere inline fuse in there somewhere.
