Hi.

Any experience of failing baffle plate gaskets?
Have you used any sealant glue or similar with paper gasket?

I was getting water in 1.st cylinder and it seems that gasket have failed.
There is narrow area between upper center bolt to water/exhaust chamber.

If you use OEM gasket it could come as a blackish green color, this is the silicon impregneatated gasket and no sealer used. If using the grey paper gasket use Permetex avaition sealer.

Hate to say it, but you might have a cracked cylinder block. Of the two dozen Merc triples to enter my shop, only three of them had decent top cylinders; the rest of them were burnt out.

Before you do anything else, do a compression test and see what you have.

Thanks for replying.
Compression test is done. ~120 at every cylinder.
Motor was taken apart last winter and I couldn't see anything wrong with the cylinders.
That failed gasket is also installed by me and it was sierra set. It was grey paper gasket.
It came to my mind that maybe I overtightened the gasket and thats why it failed right away.
Did some google work and found one thread saying 13Nm (115 in-lb) for 1/4 center bolts and 22Nm (200in-lb) for bigger ones.
For me it looked like gasket was crushed around center bolt. Can it be that simple (stupid) mistake?

Just ordered new sierra set because there is no original available here in decent time. I'll try with permatex aviation..

Still not ok.
Fastjeff-can you easily spot cracked cylinder?
How you seek it?

Compression checked again. 130 all cylinders wot when cranking.
