Newbie needs some help with an old Mercury 500

Thanks a bunch for the info; I have a Dewalt impact lug nut remover - will give that a shot; fortunately my shop manual specifies a flywheel puller part number - 91-73687A1 - readily available on the Bay.
 
Seefra, when you installed the new CDI stator, did you have to cut the wires to be shorter so that would fit; the ones on mine are very long with no room to accommodate the extra length.
