2003 Honda BF50 - small gas leak near top

Hello everyone. i'm a first time poster...

I have a 2003 Honda BF50 that seems to have a gas leak near the top. I can occasionally see gas dripping from a screw. The engine started just fine, ran for a few moments and then started running rough. Then I noticed a sheen in the water and shut it off. The gas was coming out of a hole in the bottom of the cover and I would guess there was maybe a quarter of a cup in the cover.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Chuck

Looks like your float bowl. I would try to tighten it first. If that doesn't work order a new gasket. Pretty easy fix but you will have to pull the carb. Plenty of youtube videos to show you have to remove it.

I agree with Crunchy....it looks like you've lost the seat at the float chamber on that carburetor. But, as with ANY fluid leak, make sure to look UP.

Meaning?: always verify that where you SEE the leak is actually where it is originating. Gravity will pull fluid down and, sometimes, even sideways to fool you about where it's coming from.

Good luck.
