Hey! I recently bought a used mariner 15 HP 2 stroke outboard . Turns out it needs a new waterpump impeller. And I have been on a journey since. The serial number looks to be worn off the cover from sun. But it does have a what looks to be the MOdel number on the transom swivel. It says "mariner w15 662 L. 301142 made in Japan " the motor block etc have engraved numbers. All starting with 662 . I have called around everywhere even had the gentlemen here at marine engine on the phone. I have no idea what to do to find out how to identify this outboard so I can know what parts to order for it. Mainly impeller. Thanks! I tried posting photos but had trouble. Am going to try to post photos again after I post this message

Even a Marine Engine .com parts guy couldn't ID this engine for you? Call them back and ask them to start reading their own forums for help.:D

Your engine serial number 301142 is coming up as an 1987 Mariner (15 HP W) Model Number 7015327.... L = Long shaft.

Though you'll want to try and compare designs, etc. found in the parts guide, Your Impeller ought to be found in the following link, http://www.marineengine.com/parts/mercury_marine_parts/sn/00301142/ 7015327/701_17

Here's some completed parts catalogs for you too,

Good luck.

Awesome! Hey thanks a million! Yeh I was becoming very concerned I just bought an engine I'd never be able to use. I called marineengines. Twin city outboard. Crawling. Called this oldoutboard.com lol. Awesome deal though. I still have the gentlemans extension at marine engine. I'm about to call and order the parts I need thanks alot! One more question though. When I looked at the impeller I saw a Sierra and a quicksilver brand. Are those just brand options per my choice or do they have different dimensions and I need to choose the correct one. Thanks in advance(scrarch the impeller question thanks again!)

Quicksilver is the Merc (OEM) brand.

Sierra is an aftermarket company which usually sells parts for a little (to a lot) less than Merc. Most Sierra parts are "as good as" OEM an in a couple of cases, coils in particular, I prefer Sierra over OEM.
