Is is possible to replace the old style kill button on a 1977 9.8 Merc with a new style kill switch with leash ?

The lanyard switch can be mounted close to the motor.----Wires can be spliced into the wires from the existing switch.------Both switches would be functional.-----Up to the owner the pick the method most suitable.
