Hi all, I bought a couple of used engines, one with a new power head and I'm getting an intermittent alarm that shuts off when restarting. My software is telling me that I have problem with my oil pressure switch, ignition primary switch and water temp switch. The engine runs beautifully, uses oil and never overheats. I had an issue with my last evinrude and it turned out to be oil dripping onto the electrical connection from the sensor. I'm wondering if there might be a similar issue with this engine?

Thanks! Ron

Any time a engine is reinstalled/rebuilt the oil system will need reprimed on the boat. The dealer prime means nothing . The code 84 is #4 ignition coil problem.

Thanks so much; it sounds as tho' the guy I bought it from had it primed and reinstalled, then the fuel pump went out on the other engine so he sold them both to me. So you're saying that I need to get it re-primed since it was pulled off his boat?

(Priming The VRO Pump)
(J. Reeves)

When hooking up or installing a VRO whether it is a new or original VRO pump, it must be primed in order to dispel any air that might be in the oil line.

Have the Oil line attached to the engine fitting BUT detached from the VRO. Add a piece of fuel hose if necessary to the oil line so that it can be aimed into some sort of container.

Pump the oil primer bulb, catching the oil flowing out of the line into the container until you are absolutely sure that you have rid the oil line of every bit of air that might have been trapped there.

Now, connect the oil line to the VRO and secure it. When the oil line is secured, apply pressure to the oil primer bulb ONE TIME only. That's it.

Does this motor even have a VRO pump ?------No VRO pump on a direct injected FICHT model.------Model # of the engine is ????

To prime:
Start engine and pinch off the oil return line between the oil pump and check valve. Check all the oiling hoses going into block have no bubbles. Do this 20 seconds at a time.
