Little advice on Evinrude changeover

Hi there, looking for a little advice on my changeover outboard project

I had a 35hp Evinrude(1980's) that has tanked. So I purchased an Evinrude 28hp (Model #E28ESLEDR 1996) to replace.
The controls for the old motor are still in place so I'm hoping that I can place the 28hp right on and connect the gear and throttle cables with no worries (I'm assuming they are pretty much the same.

As well, I have an OMC power tilt and trim that was hooked up to the 35hp that I'm hoping to keep as it worked great. Just wondering if anyone knows where I can find a bracket to fit the 28hp? Seems there are no holes for this bracket on 28hp. I have attached pictures for assistance with understanding my dilemma.

Thanks for viewing

I do not believe the 96 model uses the same big red plug on the cable.-----So you have some work to do.-----The " tilt only " unit was custom installed and not factory I believe.

There is no big red plug from my old Evinrude so perhaps it's a bit newer than I thought. Sounds like we are going to use the controls from the newer motor anyway so makes the job a little easier to remove old controls and install newer controls.

Thanks for the tip though. Much appreciated
