Racor fuel filter question

My sons boat has a Yamaha f40 that came with a 2 micron racor fuel filter and I'm going to replace as preventive maintenance, was wondering if 2 micron is too much restriction for the fuel pump. I read somewhere that sometimes 2 restrictive filters can damage pumps, is that true, should I just replace it with a 10 microns filter?

I ordered the new filter last night and canceled it today just in case.

Thanks in advance

A clean 2 micron filter won't hurt anything. A dirty 10 micron filter can starve the motor of gasoline.

Neither will damage a fuel pump.

Other fuel restrictions, of which there are many, can come into play.

The real issue is that some two strokes can be damaged if and when the fuel supply is restricted, causing the motor to run lean for a period of time.

That make sense.
