Hi everyone!
I have a 1984 omc v6 3.8l
when I bought it the tilt motor would go down but not up, then it didn’t do anything at all.
I took out the motor to test it and it works just fine, thought maybe it just needed some grease.
So I put it back in, tighten it down and jump the solenoid and Nothing happens.
I put everything in according to the parts diagram,
Tilt motor->nylon washer on motor shaft->hammer coupling
then it slides into the housing where a retainer coupling sits.
I tighten the bolts for the motor down and it just doesn’t work anymore. If I leave the top bolt kind of snug and the bottom bolt loose it spins.
What could be the issue? I have taken the motor out about 10x to try and put in at a different angle and whatnot but it only goes in one way at the end.
Could I put a washer between the tilt motor and the intermediate housing so the motor doesn’t slide in too far when tightening? Would that be okay or bad?
