360 cooling system (closed cooling)

So on the starboard engine, the starboard manifold has a metal tube running from the bottom/rear of the manifold going forward to attach to the cooling system. But the port manifold does not have this, it just goes to an elbow and directly to cooling hose. Is there any need for this tube other than making it impossible to remove the manifolds while the engine is still in the boat?

Water tubes are for cooling purposes. I suppose you could change it over to rubber hoses. If you ever get it apart. You might have to pull the engine to fix that.

Willpower, 3 different extensions and a universal joint and a combination of using deep and short sockets.
And there's an access hatch just below the photo. ;)
