Hey guys,
I have a old Johnson 7 1/2 hp sea horse
Won't stay running.
Hard to start, but when I pull the plugs out , pull the cord a few times and put the plugs back in it will fire right up.

But I can't keep it running long enough to adjust the rich n lean
 
The wire with the band on it was the top plug wire when it left the factory.-----How old is " old " and what colour is this motor or post the model # for it.-------Does spark jump a gap of at least 5/16" ??-----What is compression ?----On the 56 / 57 / 58 models there was a filter in the glass bowl , perhaps check that.
 
Spark plug gap is good, new coils and points n plugs.

Can the glass bowl filter be cleaned or do I need a new one?

Is there a middle ground to start with the rich n lean control...
 
Green motors of that era were 1955 and older.------The motor is a mix of parts.-----CD 13 is a 56 model 5.5 HP-----The 7.5 was an ---AD---- model

All I know is side by side it's identical to my grampa 7.5 except for the mounting bracket to hold it on the boat.
I just ordered a rebuild kit for the carburetor...
I'll let you know how it goes..
