2006 Honda 225HP with 500 hrs. I had to replace 3 starters motor assembly Item Number 31200-zy3-003 in 3 years. It kept burning out usually about after 40 to 50 hrs. I start the engine and turn back the ignition normally like a regular car ignition. Engine runs find after it starts. Thanks

Low voltage is the most common cause of starter overheat. Get a multi meter, connect the red to the positive terminal on the starter solenoid, black to a lifting eye. Pull the lanyard to prevent engine starting , check that you have around 12.4 volts, if not, fully charge the battery, and then crank engine for about 5 seconds and watch the voltage , if it drops below 9.6 then you will have to investigate where the loss of voltage is occurring. Try that and let me know the result.
