Bf150 prop washer

I thought everything was good to go until I checked my propeller yesterday. I either misplaced the washer last fall, or it just never had one in front of the castle nut. I picked one up yesterday, but it does not fit with the mercury mirage stainless prop (I cant access the hole for the cotter pin). Can insecure this without that washer? If not, what specific washer works for this application?
 
That is the washer I picked up yesterday that doesnt expose the cotter pin hole.

My marina said I can run without the washer.....not so sure!!!

I will give that a shot. I have 826704 for a hub kit on there now, which is in Mercurys guide---the 835278 only shows up as 225 HP, but the reality is mine isnt working! It has to be that I lost the washer in the fall---frustrating!!
