Engine stalls on gradual excelleration

I have a 2005 Sea Ray with a Mercruiser 5.0 L V8 Alpha One . The motor stalls when doing a slow excelleration. It starts up good, idles good and stays running after you shift it into forward or reverse as long as you don't try to push it to far past neutral. If I push on the throttle (back and forth) like pumping the pedal, it won't stall. I have changed plugs and fuel filter. Boat has approximately 400 hours. I know this may be a repeated topic, but I couldn't find any other ones related.

Both are good suggestions. How could you test the accelerator pump.
What would you look for with the lower shift cable?

Ayuh,..... Disconnect the cable from the carb, 'n manually try to accelerate the motor,....

The lower shift cable should move butter smooth, with very little to no resistance,....
Disconnect it at the shift plate, 'n manually move it,....

Thanks, I will try that.
