Info on OMC Seadrive

Guys - new to the forum and would like info on OMC Seadrive(s).

I see that OMC uses capacities (liters) instead of horsepower for rating, but would like to know weights and the horsepower from the 1982 2.6L to their 1988 models. Hoping someone on the board has this info. Also, just a general question as to why they (OMC) used capacity instead of actual HP.

Thanking you in advance for any info you can provide - mark

The marketing department chose to use the liters instead of horses.------The 2.6 litre would compare to the 235 HP outboard model.-----Weight for the 235 HP outboard is about 400 LBS.----The seadrive is about 500 lbs with extra brackets / cylinders.

Racer - appreciate the quick response. On a twin setup ours did not have a tie-bar, but others had them. Any comments? And no they didn't fall off, that was the setup and eventually, its undoing. The engines were cock-eyed and at that point we were looking for an excuse to pull the trigger. The engines ran faultless for the 7 years before we repowered - thanks again
